2024 HIGHLIGHTS / ACCOMPLISHMENTS / EVENTS
- The hard work and faithful dedication of the Search Committee in bringing about a covenant with our Priest-in-Charge, The Rev. Tracy J. Wells Miller
- In 2024, our worship services were led by laity in Morning /Evening Prayer for 31 weeks out of 52 weeks in the year, 60% of the year.
- Average weekly attendance at Zion Church in 2024 was 32
- Hosted the Morris Community Thanksgiving service well attended by the community
- Commissioning of parishioners Stevie Morley and Kit Stroh into the Community of Hope
- A baptism in the ancient tradition of full immersion of Jennifer White at home of John and Pat Matteson and a baptism of Chole Sokolowski at All Saints Chapel
- Monthly workshops held throughout the summer / fall months at Harmony Cemetery by Morris Historical Society for the cleaning and repairing of gravestones.
- Summer services at All Saints Chapel, with over 60 in attendance for July service.
- Recognition and reception for graduating seniors and acolytes of Zion parish Maiya, Sawyer and Yana King and Jessica Walling.
- Support for Magic Closet with donations for an “Undie Sunday”
- Holding Second Saturday Soup October through March, with record numbers of people served – 509.
- Sponsoring Sawyer King’s Eagle Scout project through landscaping project at Zion Church.
- Hosted visit of then Bishop Elect Jeremiah Williamson to Zion Church.
- Attendance of parishioners at Consecration of Bishop Williamson as 10th Bishop of the Albany Diocese
- Record attendance at Candlelight Christmas Eve service.
- Our Zion Church Facebook group, which began 7 years ago with 45 members, is now up to 233 members, gaining 47 members in 2024, a20% growth.
- Provided space for Morris Central School Student Council to provide food and basic necessities for the Morris Community.
- Through the Magic Closet, we assist the Safe House (formerly Lord’s Table), Oneonta Women’s Shelter, Oxford Vet’s Home and the Reuse Center in Oneonta (ARC).
Our Ministries include
Magic Closet – Free clothing store open Wednesday and Saturday, 10:00 am – noon (March-December) and 2nd Saturdays only, 10:00 am- noon (January and February)
Second Saturday Soup – Free soup for all on Second Saturdays in the months of October through April, 10:00 am – noon.
Caring for our Cemeteries – Parishoners care for the burial grounds at Harmony Cemetery on Pegg Road, Morris and All Saints Burial Grounds on St HWY 51.
